SSG wins both the ban phase and the map due to the key fact that they have wolverine. SSG is not a triple support team, as xanjiee’s best characters are wolv and dd, and the only other large player in their team is sjw, who is too difficult to ban out because of certain meta characters (wolv and emma bc necrize) being too relevant to ignore in the ban phase given SSG’s weaknesses (triple supp, xanjiee psy, no superstar tanks). This means that if you’re drafting against SSG, the first three bans you should do are likely Gambit-Wolv-Emma (maybe dino over emma).

From 100T perspective, and the understanding that their ideal comp is the rush comp with suppool triple, banning wolv makes even more sense, as he is the biggest counter to the comp. Leaving it open makes it necessary to protect invis, and therefore forces them to give up any one of valuable characters such as elsa, psy, emma or dino, which can lead to them being put in an undesirable situation (nectar no elsa or psy, cart off hulk, ttk no emma or dino, and most importantly no rush comp).

Banning mantis over wolv into SSG is unmistakably a blunder by 100T, and it cost them a map.

SSG has a solid ban phase, and one that could’ve led to a map win had they been better as a team and individually. They have an objective draft advantage in securing gambit-rogue, but problems arise once that advantage is applied to their team. Though the teamup is undeniably broken, and arguably enough to theoretically win, the players on SSG aren’t good enough at it to execute it at that level. They also didn’t ban for it correctly, missing their chance to ban invis and opting to ban wolv instead, who has less prevalance against their comp. These combine to a map where they were close to winning but lost from these simple mistakes.

100T made the correct adjustment this map, banning wolv middle, a large enough advantage to squeeze out a map win despite other ban phase issues. As explained earlier, a wolv ban middle against SSG cripples them, and is the most valuable character to ban from them (doesn’t mean first ban). Protecting both invis and dino are also tremendous, as they both are huge counters of gambit-rouge, and also synergize well with the cart portions of the map. However, they made a giant mistake in banning loki first, in turn giving SSG gambit-rouge. Had 100T first banned gambit, this never would’ve been an issue, and it could be guessed that their win could’ve happened a lot easier and faster off of the ban phase. This change also makes the adam ban last more justifiable, as to weaken SSG’s defense, particularly on the first point.

Despite incorrect bans from both sides, the adjustment by 100T to ban wolv middle is simply too strong against SSG, and led to a win that wasn’t found on map 1 with a mantis ban.
